One of your KABAYAN’s advocacies is pushing for justice for the Malaya Lolas, victims of systematic rape and sexual slavery by the Japanese Imperial Army during WWII. They are survivors of the Japanese siege of Mapanique, Tarlac.
On the occasion on the visit of Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, the Lolas appealed for their help by supporting their call for an official apology and compensation from the Japanese government.
According to Lola Isabelita Vinuya, their members are dying one by one, unable to receive justice after more than 70 years of suffering.
The Malaya Lolas are being assisted by CenterLaw, which filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to compel the Philippine government to espouse their claims against Japan. The high court dismissed the petition on April 28, 2010. #
